Welcome Message for Online Programs
Dear Students,
It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to Yangon University of Distance Education and to the Department of Law. I extend my warmest greetings to each of you as you begin or continue your academic journey with us.
Our online law courses were first launched in 2012 as a Human Resource Development Program under the leadership of Dr. Tin May Htun, Professor and Head of the Department at the time, with the guidance of Rector Dr. Hla Tint. Since then, we have steadily expanded our online learning initiatives in line with our university’s motto: "For one’s desire, education is never too far."
I joined YUDE in 2015 and have had the honor of serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Law since 2017. Our online programs aim to offer flexible, lifelong learning opportunities—particularly for professionals who have already engaged in full-time employment.
At Yangon University of Distance Education, we are committed to fostering academic excellence, encouraging innovation, and upholding the values of integrity, inclusivity, and service. Our university is not just a place of learning—it is a space for growth, transformation, and intellectual exploration.
The online teaching methodology we employ differs significantly from traditional classroom instruction. All learning resources—including course outlines, lecture notes, references, PowerPoint presentations, and recorded lectures—are uploaded to our official website, ensuring they are accessible anytime, anywhere. Students shall complete assignments every two weeks, followed by a tutorial test after the fourth assignment, and a final examination upon completion of eight assignments. All assessment tasks are designed to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and our approach is both student-centered and open-book.
To enhance the student experience beyond academics, we also offer extracurricular activities such as Hluttaw visits, mock trials, court visits, and community teaching programs. At our Annual Dinner, outstanding students are formally recognized and awarded for their achievements.
Our online students come from different backgrounds, representing ministries, private enterprises, local entrepreneurs, and even housewives. Despite their diverse walks of life, they are united by a shared aspiration for legal excellence. Upon completing our online programs, many have gone on to serve as judicial officers, law officers, advocates, and esteemed government officials. The knowledge they gain is not merely theoretical; it seamlessly integrates into their daily professional lives, empowering them to apply legal principles with clarity, confidence, and impact across a broad spectrum of sectors.
Graduates of our programs become valued alumni of the Department of Law and remain actively involved in supporting and contributing to the department’s continued development.
As you embark on this academic journey, I encourage you to fully engage in your studies, collaborate with your peers and instructors, and take advantage of all the opportunities our university has to offer. Let this be a time of personal and professional growth as you explore your interests and refine your skills.
As Dean, I am proud to lead a lifelong learning community that is not only committed to academic excellence but also dedicated to shaping individuals who will make meaningful contributions to society.
Together, let us continue to build a vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring academic community. I look forward to the year ahead and to the many achievements we will share.
With warm regards,
Dr Tin Htay Ei
